Worldwide Readership Research Symposium

11-14 October 2009

Reading in the Future: New Metrics for New Business Models

What is the Future of Reading? The digital revolution has given us a glimpse of the manifold possibilities. The variety and quality of responses to our Call for Synopses have demonstrated, vividly, the widespread desire to develop solutions to the many questions which are posed by the rapidly changing environment. At the Symposium, we will discuss these issues. Assembled into seven Sessions, spread over four days, contributions from around the world will be presented, showing their triumphs as well as their pitfalls. Above all, these will demonstrate the continuing power of the print brand, whatever the platform. Delegate participation from the floor will add to our knowledge.

Welcome to Spain’s City of the Future

Dynamic Valencia, Spain’s third largest city, a sleeping beauty which is still being transformed by a massive building programme into a showcase for some of Europe’s most futuristic architects. Calatrava’s gleaming white City of Arts and Sciences, the Opera House and the Velas e Vents complex at the Port designed for the Americas Cup (near our hotel), are unmissable sights. The old city still has the charm of traditional Spain; see the Cathedral, originally a Mosque built under the Moorish occupation in the 13th Century and the surrounding Plaza della Reina, the covered market and the tree lined squares and streets.

Spain is currently home to some of the world’s best restaurants and Valencia has a wide choice of starred establishments, as well as more affordable options; it is the home of Paella. If you can take an extra day it is well worth visiting the rice fields in the Albufera Nature Reserve, where a whole village is dedicated to serving every conceivable variety of the dish!

Our hotel is ideally situated on Arenas beach, along which runs the Paseo Maritimo with its bars and restaurants to suit every taste. Remember that Spain dines late: 9 o’clock is the usual dinner booking.

We have taken advantage of these Spanish customs to organise our work programme in a non-traditional way. On Sunday, after the Opening Session we’ll have the Paella lunch, and the afternoon will be free, with a Get-together cocktail at 7.30. On the next two days there are two working Sessions each day, in the morning and then again in the late afternoon. This means that there will be an extended break in the middle of the day, which will allow Delegates to enjoy the surroundings, rest, or even arrange working lunches nearby. The second Session of the day will finish by the cocktail hour!

Partners will be able to enjoy the many facilities the resort offers: the luxurious Spa, beach, pool, tennis as well as exploring the delights of Valencia.

All Inclusive Symposium Package

€3,550

Early Bird Registration closed at the end of June. All sea view rooms have now been taken, therefore, as we can only offer city view rooms (subject to availability) the price for the five night package, including delegate fee is €3,550 euros.

We may be able to get a few more sea view rooms – so please let us know if you would like to be on the list for one of these at an extra cost of €125 making a total of €3675 as previously advertised.

Cost includes the Delegate Fee (see below) plus five nights accommodation at Hotel Las Arenas Balneario Resort, buffet breakfast, services and taxes ALL INCLUDED.

Fee includes

  • Admission to all Sessions

  • Summary of Current Readership (Printed copy exclusive to Delegates)

  • Book of Session Papers

  • Lunches and Coffee Breaks during Sessions

  • Welcome Cocktail and Gala Dinner

Accommodation:Hotel Las Arenas Balneario Resort, the only five star hotel located on Valencia seafront, near to the America’s Cup Port, and the start of the Formula One circuit. There are miles of beach for joggers, an eclectic row of waterside restaurants and bars nearby for leisure time. The hotel is a modern interpretation of classical style. Just under half the rooms face the magnificent seafront, these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We hope to accommodate all delegates in the resort, as the hotel is situated some way out of the City, so is an inconvenient and costly commute during rush hours.

These rates are confirmed for Saturday – Wednesday (five nights) only. If you wish to modify your stay, you can contact the Secretariat, who are guaranteed the best rate applicable at the time.

Accompanying persons are included in the Welcome Cocktail and Gala Dinner, though not admitted to the Sessions or the associated coffee breaks and lunches. The five night package at €350 includes accommodation shared with delegate, buffet breakfast and a Get Together event.

These rates apply only to bookings paid for through the Symposium Secretariat. Details of the Conditions of Booking, including policy regarding cancellations/substitutions, are on the back of the Registration Form, please read them carefully.

In view of the intense working programme and present economic circumstances, we have reduced the social activities and will concentrate on our very stimulating Sessions.

Registration Only Package

We are now releasing a delegate Registration Fee only package, without accommodation, at €2,650 euros. The package includes all the benefits listed below:

  • Admission to all sessions on all four days

  • Summary of Current Readership (printed copy exclusive to Delegates)

  • Book of Session Papers

  • Lunches and Coffee Breaks during Sessions

  • Welcome Cocktail party
